Herman Miller

A POTTED HISTORY

Many of you will be sitting in a Herman Miller chair reading this! An innovative US-based furniture brand, with a European HQ in Chippenham, whose modern, forward-thinking designs have become synonymous with quality since the mid 20th century.

THE CHALLENGE

Now selling in over 100 countries, Herman Miller recognised the importance of calling upon expert translation services to serve their ever-growing market. The material for translation covers a range of areas, from internal policy documents to marketing material. The key challenge for Dialogue has been in the marketing material, namely soft and hard copy product brochures. It was important for Dialogue to ensure the translation was 100% accurate, reflecting the Herman Miller style and tone for each target market but localising where necessary to make local impact.

THE SOLUTION

  • A glossary of terms was created, reviewed and agreed with the local markets. Translation is more than just finding the right words: it’s also about finding the right tone for a particular market.
  • The material was localised and dropped directly into InDesign to save Herman Miller time and money.
  • Then the copy went though Dialogue’s strict ISO 17100 quality assurance process to ensure it was completely accurate.
  • The material is now stored inside Trados, our translation memory software on our secure servers so any updates can be made cheaply, easily and swiftly!

THE RESULTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES

A Herman Miller representative said this about Dialogue – “As we constantly seek to promote our new product offerings, the continued support of an expert translation service is essential in ensuring we are serving our European markets and delivering regionalised marketing assets. Dialogue always provides top quality translations, deliver within our demanding timeframes, as well as being friendly and helpful during the process.”
