Examining Boards that cover various languages

Europe has now got itself together with regard to unifying exams and defining some new-fangled "Can-do" levels. The Council of Europe, in collaboration with ALTE (Association of Language Testers in Europe), has developed a very clear framework of levels.

This compares different pan-European exams and indicates what a candidate should be able to do with his or her language, either at work or on a day-to-day basis. Each "Can-do" definition can be broken down into the 4 skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Have a look at their website - it'll make more sense!
